Navigation License

* Only in Spain

To pilot a boat in Spain, you often need a navigation license. Depending on the length of the boat, the number of miles at sea, and whether it's for private or commercial use, different licenses are required.

What navigation license do you need?

For renting motorboats in Spain that are longer than 5 meters or have more than 15 horsepower, a navigation license is necessary. Spain recognizes the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) as a valid boating license. You can obtain a basic navigation license (titulín) in just an afternoon, which allows you to rent a motorboat from 5 meters. You don´t have to be a resident in Spain to obtain a Spanish navigation license.

When do you not need a navigation license?

For motorboats shorter than 5 meters and with less than 15 horsepower, no navigation license is required. When renting a sailboat, no boating license is needed if the boat is shorter than 6 meters.

Ready for the next step?
We are happy to advise you on the necessary yacht license and can connect you with reliable training centers in Spain that offer navigation courses and certificates.
